Rev. J. Ivey Miller
May 6, 2010
Reverend J. Ivey Miller went to be with his beloved Lord and Savior on May 6, 2010 in Tyler, Texas where he has resided since 1981. He was born Jones Ivey Miller to Lee and Cora Miller in the small East Texas community of Pickton on February 14, 1922. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Howard Miller of Brownsville, Texas and his sister Grace Kight of Como, Texas. His wife of 48 years Winnie D. Miller, also preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by his wife Louise Vick Miller, son, David and wife Sally Miller of Houston, daughter, Marsha and husband Ken Mitchell of San Antonio, son Jim and wife Rose Miller of Marietta, Georgia, daughter, Susan and husband Doug Cox of Gilmer, Texas, sister, Pauline Hayden of Pickton, Texas, five grandchildren, Salisha and Breisen Miller of New York, Karie Houchin, Glynis Miller, and Tamara Mitchell of San Antonio, Kelly Ward of Odessa, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ivey’s Grandfather Miller dedicated him to the Lord when Ivey almost died of pneumonia as an infant. He knew from a very young age he had been called by God to serve Him. He graduated from Pickton High School where he was an accomplished student and athlete. He loved and participated in all sports, but excelled in basketball. He went to Decatur Baptist College and then to Baylor University on full basketball scholarships. He made life-long friends no matter where he went. He was an outgoing, loving, patient, and optimistic person who never met a stranger. His IHOP ministry was a huge part of his routine until the last year of his life. He continued to witness and inspire people even when infirmities kept him close to home. The friends he made at What-A-Burger received a quote or song most mornings around 4:30 a.m. as he would go through the drive through for his Taquito and coffee. One of his favorite quotes was “Don’t let the devil in the car with you, because he may soon be driving.”
Ivey, wife, Winnie, and 18 month old son, David, left friends and family when they were called to the Foreign Mission field of Chile, South America, in 1946. Upon returning to the States eight years later, the Miller Family had grown by three additional children, Marsha, Jim, and Susan.
He began working on his doctorate in 1954, but soon realized he had to provide for his family and was called to pastor First Baptist Church of Winnsboro. He then went to Greenville, TX as District Missionary, then to San Antonio as Superintendent of the Mexican Baptist Children’s Home where he served for 17 years. While there, he was interim pastor of several area churches, including South San Baptist Church of San Antonio, Black Creek Church in Divine, First Baptist Church of Del Rio, and several Hispanic missions.
Upon his retirement in 1976, Ivey and Winnie moved to Winnsboro, and later to Tyler in 1981. Again he served as Interim pastor at several churches and was instrumental in establishing Bullard Southern Baptist Church. He retired permanently in 1990 to care for Winnie through her battle with cancer. He married Louise Vick in March, 1995, the widow of a Baptist preacher, and both continued to serve and witness for the Lord.
The family would like to offer their heart-felt thanks to the staff of the fourth floor Ornelas Tower at Mother Francis Hospital and the wonderful care givers at Hospice of East Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of East Texas.
Visitation will be at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, Sunday, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. A Memorial service will be Monday, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Tyler, officiated by his long time friend and pastor, Dr. Paul Powell

Hazel Seymour Wooley
May 3, 2010
Hazel Seymour Wooley has a new Address! Halleluiah!
“Where do you go to church? Do you know Jesus?” These are two of the questions Hazel would probably ask within minutes of meeting you. She was a tireless soldier for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hazel was baptized on May 6, 1949 and has been a member of Trinity Baptist Church Tyler ever since. She served TBC in the Women’s Missionary union, as a Sunday school teacher, and held many leadership positions. Starting in the seventies she and her husband, Roland, joined builders for Christ and built churches across America, in such places as Silverton, CO, Topeka, KS and Bedford, IN.
Hazel Margaret Seymour was born October 30, 1924 in Stratford, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Stuart, Oklahoma where she graduated from Stuart High School in 1942 as vice president of her class. She went on to nursing school at the Baptist Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, graduating in 1946 as a Registered Nurse. During this time she met a handsome young soldier from Tyler named William Roland Wooley. They would marry August 12, 1946 and remained together until his passing in 1998—almost 52 years!
Hazel worked for Mother Frances Hospital while Roland went to school on the GI Bill. When Medical Center Hospital opened, Hazel was one of their first nurses, serving in surgery, ER and finally retiring from ETMC in 1985 as a Nursing Supervisor. She continued nursing however, giving flu shots…. and advice for many years.
Hazel loved camping and travel. We loaded up the station wagon and hit the road from California to Florida. She was fortunate to travel to Europe, Hawaii, Panama, Alaska, and many other exciting places on cruises that she and Roland were able to go on, and with friends after his passing.
Hazel is predeceased by her husband; her mother, Sara (Sally) Seymour; and father, Richard Stanley Seymour; her sisters, Cecil Deatherage Williams, Vera Deatherage Brenner, Marie Deatherage; brothers, Rand Deatherage, Jack Seymour, and Rex Seymour.
Hazel is survived by her sons, William Carl Wooley, Lloyd Wayne Wooley, and Dale Alan Wooley. She has seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Hazel loved her Lord, loved her family and loved her church. We often joked that Jesus wouldn’t take mom home because she had too much work left to do. I’m sure He is with her now saying, “Rest my good and faithful servant. Well Done!”
Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 8, 2010, in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Ken Hall and Rev. Curtis Crofton officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
